In order to help Ningbo speed up the construction of a modern coastal metropolis, Ningbo Art Museum has planned and implemented the exhibition "Resail – The Alive Cultural Landscape of Ningbo Port City " based on its collection. The exhibition was opened in the morning of July 27 at Ningbo Art Museum as part of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism's 2022 National Art Museum Collection Season.

More than 40 pieces (groups) of works related to the Ningbo Art Museum, Ningbo Zhoushan Port and their memories of the port city, from the 1970s to the present, are selected for the exhibition, covering painting, photography, architecture, documentary materials and related films. The museum, once regarded as an iconic building of Ningbo Port, is closely related to the Ningbo Zhoushan Port, now the world's largest port in terms of throughput, which together form a cultural picture of Ningbo's port city, complemented by the memories of the city rooted in the genes of local artists of the present and the past.

The formation of the theme of "Re-Sail" is closely linkedto Ningbo Zhoushan Port and Ningbo Art Museum, which naturally refer to the transformation of Ningbo Port and Ningbo Port Passenger Terminal, implying tremendous changes and the profound revelation of the reincarnation between union and division, prosperity and decay. At the same time, they demonstrate the speed and ambition of the expansion of the urban pattern, showing the magnificent transformation from a hub of distant travel to a transshipment station and a source of urban culture. As important players in the evolution of society, they together inspire economic advancement and spiritual pulse.

In today's globalized competition and cooperation, the symbolic significance of Ningbo, a coastal metropolis, as the gateway to the country, is becoming increasingly clearer. Its "fluidity" is, to a certain extent, an allusion to innovation and development. It has an incomparable role and contribution to the progress of a city, a region, and even a country. Based on this, the exhibition strives for the perception and exploration of port culture in local culture, and the promotion of people's understanding and imagination of the significance of port culture in Ningbo through various artists' historical perceptions and current judgments of Ningbo as a port city

In the exhibition hall of "Re-Sail", visitors can appreciate the entire exhibition space separated by steel scaffolding and wooden material. Steel and wood were the main materials used in the construction of ships and harbors in the past, but they also share the same design concept as the Ningbo Museum of Art itself. The scaffolding and wooden materials outline and divide the map of Ningbo's "Three River Convergence", while the tour route is intentionally designed to resemble the intersection of the Yuyao, Fenghua and Yong rivers before rushing east. It seems that the audience is walking along the "three rivers and six banks", being in this river of time, feeling the changes of Ningbo port and the transformation of the former Ningbo Passenger Terminal. This is another purpose and meaning of the exhibition, that is, to let the audience feel that what was once a hub of distant travel, a link of outward exploration of the city, has now been transformed into a transit station and a source of cultural exchange of ideas in the city, and at the same time to testify to the speed and vigor of the port city's continuous development, thus gathering consensus of struggle and power for advancement.
