The Film Culture Carnival kicked off in Ningbo on the evening of Apirl 15. By breaking through the traditional viewing boundaries and combining the country’s first film industry experience scene with a cultural and creative fair featuring “exploring intangible cultural heritage through films”, the carnival has attracted nearly 20 domestic film industry giants, bringing several world-first cutting-edge technologies and carefully creating a new consumption format of “film + experience + intangible cultural heritage + cultural tourism”.

In the “Exploring Intangible Cultural Heritage through Films” fair, Chen Mingwei, a state-level representative inheritor of Ningbo’s bone and wood inlaying craftsmanship, showed up as a representative.

He introduced the state-level intangible cultural heritage representative item of bone-wood inlaying and his own story. “The 7,000-year cultural heritage of Ningbo has nurtured the intangible cultural heritage technique of bone-wood inlaying. Many movies feature the use of bone-wood inlaid furniture. I spent three years ‘reviving’ the most elaborately made bed, which represents the peak of Ningbo-style furniture craftsmanship. Now I have applied traditional skills to modern luggage design, and won the ‘Mountain Flower Award’.”

At the spot, Chen Mingwei sincerely invited people to visit the Intangible Cultural Heritage Fair, where they could experience the cross-disciplinary resonance between Ningbo-style elegance and screen aesthetics in every moment.

The “Exploring Intangible Cultural Heritage through Films” cultural and creative fair will be held at Tianyi Square from April 15 to 19. Hundreds of representative inheritors of intangible cultural heritage items from all over the country will bring with them nearly 1,000 kinds of exquisite cultural and creative products related to intangible cultural heritage.

Meanwhile, over 20 representative intangible cultural heritage items from Ningbo will participate in the fair, showcasing such local specialties as red and gold lacquer wood carving, bone and wood inlaying, Xiangshan bamboo root carving, and Yue Kiln celadon, such special delicacies as Ningbo-style rice dumplings and Liangnong rice cakes, as well as such folk performances as the Yue Kiln celadon music, the Fenghua cloth dragon dance, and the Meishan lion dance.

As a national “film+” comprehensive consumption pilot city, Ningbo, with its century-old film heritage, well-developed film and television industry, and abundant cultural and tourism resources, has been chose as the venue for this carnival, allowing more people to get to know Ningbo and approach it through films.
