Ningbo Port could date back to 7,000 years ago, when the ancestors in the Hemudu area started using boats and the early form of Ningbo Port came into being. In the fourth century BC, the Yue State, a state in ancient China, built Juzhang Port as a military fastness. Ningbo Port was established in 738 AD during the Tang Dynasty and the port opened up to the world in 752, when three Japanese ships carrying envoys to China entered the port. After more than 1,200 years of ups and downs, Ningbo Port regained energy with the founding of the People’s Republic of China. In 1949, the annual cargo throughput stayed at only 40,000 tons, while in 2015, it became a great international port with an annual cargo throughput of over 500 million tons. In September 2015, Ningbo-Zhoushan Port Group Co., Ltd. was officially established as the port was further integrated based on assets.
