Feng Jicai

Feng Jicai, whose ancestral home is Ningbo, was born in Tianjin in 1942. Feng Jicai started as a painter, specializing in copying the styles of the ancient times, and later became a representative writer of the “scar literature movement”. Feng Jicai made people remember Clay Figure Zhang and Brush Maker Li, some legendary folk talents in Tianjin, in his book “Street Wizards”. Over ten years later, this book has been sold over 1.3 million copies, and many of its stories have also been included in the primary and secondary school textbooks.

His masterpieces include “Ah!”, “Carved Pipe”, “Tall Woman and Her Short Husband”, “Divine Whip”, “Bound Feet”, “Pearl Bird”, “A Decade of a Hundred People”, and “Street Wizards”. His works have been translated into over ten languages, including English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian, Dutch, Spain, Korean and Vietnamese, and over forty different translations have been published overseas.
