The ancient site of Zishan is located in the southeast of the Three Forks River Bridge (now part of Xiao Village, Zhangting Township) at the eastern foot of Zishan in Xiao Village, Huitou Township, and was excavated by the Provincial Institute of Archaeology in 1981 due to the discovery of pottery chips in the early years. From the analysis of the excavated pottery pieces, there are three pottery systems: carbon black pottery with high carbon inclusion, and sand-filled gray red pottery and argillaceous gray red pottery with high firing temperature. From September to December 1996, a joint archaeological team composed of the Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology and the Department of History of Xiamen University excavated the site again. The excavation lasted three months, with an excavation area of 350 square meters, a cultural accumulation of 3 meters thick, and the field was divided into 10 levels, and more than 1,000 stone axes, spinning wheels, bone clusters, ivory carvings, and a large number of pottery were unearthed. Judging from the objects and relics that have been found, the age of the site is equivalent to the second and third cultural layers of the Hemudu site, that is, between 5,500 and 6,400 years ago. The distribution area is about tens of thousands of square meters, and the thickness of the cultural layer is 60 centimeters. The Zishan site is completely preserved and was listed as a provincial cultural relic protection unit in August 1997.
