In the eighth lunar month, a traditional temple fair was held annually in memory of the love story between Liang and Zhu. It is said, according to historical records, that Liang Shanbo was the mayor of Yinzhou for three years; when he was dying because of years’ hard work, he asked to be buried at Jiulongxu, the site where the Butterfly Lovers Cultural Park stands. The discovery of Liang Shanbo’s tomb at the park adds more credibility to the legend.

Over the years, it has host many kinds of large-scale cultural events on the theme of Liangzhu, including the National Liangzhu Love Festival, the Liangzhu Love Carnival, the Liangzhu Stamps Launching Ceremony, the Liangzhu Blind Date, the Liangzhu Traditional Fair, the Liangzhu Cultural Festival and the Liangzhu Cultural Park Tour.

Now the stage 2 construction program is under way in the tourist attraction for further development and expansion. Building on its long-enjoyed fame as a center of love in a romantic water town, the renovated theme park, with a total area of about 466,666 square meters, will continue to tap into the love industry providing love-related and wedding services. Keeping in line with the quality of 5A tourist attractions, it strives to build itself into a love paradise with new facilities built such as Liangzhu Hotel, Lovers Villa, Butterfly Park and Lovers Bar.
