Social undertakings

Education: By the end of 2022, there were a total of 1802 schools of all levels and types in Ningbo, with a total of 1.481 million students enrolled. Schools in Ningbo include 16 universities with 191000 full-time students; 85 ordinary high schools with 103000 students enrolled; 32 vocational schools with 61000 students on campus; 243 junior middle schools with 228000 students enrolled; 388 primary schools with 555000 students enrolled.

Culture: By the end of 2022, there were 28 representative national intangible cultural heritage projects and 478 representative provincial and municipal intangible cultural heritage projects in Ningbo. One more state-owned museum, the Zhou Yao Insect Museum, has been built. The state-owned museums in Ningbo totaled 17 by the end of the year. The Gujiazhuang Site at Fenghua Fangqiao has been selected as an "Important Archaeological Discovery in Zhejiang". 860 15-minute quality cultural life circles, 20 urban study rooms, 10 cultural stations, and 46 rural museums have been built. At the end of the year, there were 33 major historical and cultural sites protected at the national level in Ningbo.

Sports: In 2022, Ningbo held a total of 22 national or above sports events. Ningbo participated in the 17th Provincial Games as a team and won a total of 386.75 gold medals, 792.75 medals, and a total score of 8218.75 points, all ranking 2nd in the province. At the end of the year, Ningbo had 28231 sports venue and facilities, with a total area of 27.143 million square meters.

Hygiene: At the end of 2022, there were a total of 4916 medical and health institutions and 204 hospitals in Ningbo, including 8 first-class hospitals and 11 second-class hospitals. According to the statistics of registered residence population, the number of beds, health technicians, licensed doctors (including assistants) and registered nurses per thousand people reached 7.5, 14.1, 5.8 and 6.1 respectively.

Urban construction: The west extension of Huancheng South Road (Huanzhen North Road—Qiushi Road) and the first phase of Yinzhou Avenue—Fuqing Road (Dongqian Lake Section) have been completed and opened to traffic. The total mileage of expressways has reached 142.1 kilometers, and the central urban area has formed a "Chinese" type rapid transportation pattern. With the completion of Xindian Bridge and Xihong Bridge, the river crossing channels in the central urban area reached 30, which would greatly promote the development of Ningbo. 471 kilometers of greenways have been newly built or renovated, and 576 kilometers of provincial greenway mainlines have been basically completed. 

Social security: At the end of 2022, the number of employees concerning basic pension, medical, unemployment, work-related injury, and maternity insurance for enterprises in Ningbo reached 5.267 million, 5.016 million, 3.416 million, 4.515 million, and 3.77 million, respectively. The number of employees involving basic pension insurance and medical insurance for urban and rural residents reached 994000 and 2.962 million, respectively. At the end of the year, a total of 10.033 million social security cards were issued in Ningbo, and the activation rate of social security card financial accounts reached 71.2%.

Charity: In 2022, the charity organizations at the city and county levels raised 920 million yuan in donations, disbursed 750 million yuan in aid, and assisted 568000 people in need; As of the end of the year, a total of 10.74 billion yuan had been raised for charity, 8.76 billion yuan had been spent on aid, and 6.196 million people in need had been assisted.
