On July 4th, the immersive cultural show “Tracing the Poetry Road” kicked off at the Xikou Ancient Town of Fenghua District, Ningbo.

The Wuling Gate, Wenchang Pavilion, Sanli Old Street, and Shanxi River have all been transformed into natural real-life stages for the performance to be staged on every weekend in July. With mountains and waters serving as curtains, and ancient streets serving as platforms, the performance will completely break the traditional and boring sightseeing mode, allowing every tourist to personally touch the poetic cultural tourism experiences.

The opening section of the performance is staged at the Wuling Gate, a landmark scenic spot of Xikou Town. The performance started as the “Kuixing (the God of Examination)” solemnly took the stage with a vermilion brush in hand. The ancient literati and scholar characters appeared one after another, dressed elegantly and full of ancient charm, and the clear and resounding sound of poem reciting echoed over the square. Paired with delicate real-life light and shadow show, the poetic stories were vividly staged, allowing tourists present to instantly travel through time and space for a poetic encounter spanning thousands of years.

The entire performance was linked by water and land stages, with beautiful scenery and poem reciting. The land parade team slowly walked through the Sanli Ancient Street, on the warm and quaint green stone pavement. The ancient literati characters walked slowly forward, complementing the white walls, black tiles, and old shops along the street.

Tourists followed the parade and strolled through the ancient alleys, immersing themselves in the scenes of the ancient styles of the Tang and Song dynasties.

On the river, three ancient-style bamboo rafts carried the elegant scholars reciting poems by the water, with clear and elegant words. Their voices echoed the laughter of tourists on the shore, vividly restoring the comfortable atmosphere of ancient people boating on the Shanxi River and expressing their feelings freely.

As the parade came to an end, the scene then switched to a lively and warm public interactive session. With the iconic poetic imagery of the three Chinese characters of “mountain, stream, and moon”, the “Flying Flower” game attracted tourists of all ages and genders to eagerly raise their hands for participation. Tourists who successfully presented the lines of poetry received exclusive poetic souvenirs with the elements of the Shanxi River.

As the core area of the eastern branch of the Tang Poetry Road in East Zhejiang Province, the Xuedou Mountain area boasts picturesque scenery and a flourishing literary style. It has attracted countless literati and poets such as Li Bai and Meng Haoran to stop and write poems, leaving behind a large number of timeless poems. The immersive poetry performance delves into the core of local cultural context, using real-life performances to activate the millennium Tang poetry resources, to narrow the cultural distance between ancient and modern times.
