Thrilling scene from 2025 regatta.
The 2026 Ningbo International Regatta, as the Ningbo Municipal Sports Bureau has announced, will officially kick off on May 21 at the Asian Sailing Centre in Xiangshan, Ningbo.
Drawing 57 registered teams this year, the event has firmly secured its position as the largest J80 one-design class regatta in Asia. Compared to the previous edition, the number of participating fleets and sailors has surged by nearly 30%, pushing the event’s scale, global visibility, and industry influence to unprecedented heights.
Setting the Benchmark for Chinese Sailing
Building upon the success of the 2025 China-CEEC International Regatta, this year’s event has been significantly upgraded. It is the first keelboat regatta in China to be simultaneously featured on the official promotional calendars of both World Sailing and the Asian Sailing Federation. This dual international recognition cements its status at the forefront of China's sailing industry.
Adhering strictly to the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) and benchmarking against top-tier global standards, the regatta has become one of China's most internationally credible sailing events.
To ensure absolute fairness and professionalism, the event boasts a world-class officiating team. The jury includes World Sailing-registered international judges from Australia, South Korea, and China. Notably, both the Jury Chairman and the Principal Race Officer are veterans of Olympic sailing events. The Chinese Principal Race Officer, a national-level judge from the General Administration of Sport’s Qingdao Navigation Sports School, further guarantees the highest standards of international umpiring.
Leveraging its stunning coastal resources and profound maritime heritage, Ningbo is riding the wind and waves to establish itself as a premier destination on the global sailing map. By promoting youth sailing, cultivating professional athletes, and building an internationally recognized event IP, the city is developing a comprehensive, modern sailing ecosystem.
Diversifying Elite International Teams
This year’s regatta introduces a brand-new women’s racing division, creating a highly diverse competition landscape that brings together women’s teams, university crews, professional syndicates, charity groups, and private clubs. This inclusion not only deepens the competitive field but also broadens the event’s spectator appeal.
The international roster is formidable. Anticipated to feature 13 elite teams from eight countries—including Malaysia, Russia, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Poland, Australia, and Vietnam—the lineup includes international champions, national team veterans, and seasoned offshore racers.
Domestically, the event has seen a massive surge in participation, drawing over 30 teams from 11 provinces and regions across China, including Beijing, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Guangdong, and Hong Kong.
Finally, to ignite the competitive passion of sailors worldwide, the regatta offers a generous, fully transparent prize pool that aligns with international standards and marks a significant increase from previous years.
